Rolex Perpetual Planet — Mexico City

Experiential Event, Creative Direction & Brand Experience

2026

In September 2026, I served as Art Director on the Rolex Perpetual Planet Prize Giving Ceremony in Mexico City, held at the Jardín y Pabellón Escénico of Bosque de Chapultepec, a venue completed in 2024 and designed by Michan Architecture with the conviction that nature needs no decoration. The event honored Rosa Vásquez Espinoza, the 2026 Rolex Awards Laureate whose research on Amazonian stingless bees produced the first legal protections ever granted to an insect species. The ceremony brought together 150 guests across the conservation, media, and cultural sectors, timed to coincide with Mexico Climate Week. I led the creative concept and art direction end-to-end, from the original pitch that won the brief to the execution alongside production agency Tocino&Aguacate. The concept, titled Where Science Becomes Sensation, organized the entire guest experience around two forms: the meander of the Amazon River and the architecture of the beehive. A museographic journey of six walls guided guests through Rosa's story before the award ceremony. The stage took the shape of a half-hexagon. The photocall backdrop was a field of handmade terracotta hexagonal tiles. Every material was local, organic, and returned or reused after the event. The project reflects a practice rooted in the intersection of science, culture, and brand experience, where creative direction serves not as decoration, but as argument.
